Artist Critique #2, Andres Serrano

Andres Serrano does a wide variety of work, much of which is of unexpected and sometimes disturbing subject matter. He has a series focusing on bodily fluids, and shoots of corpses in a morgue. His photographs  are visually very interesting, his aesthetic focusing on bright colors that add to the subject matter. Initially when I looked through his work I was taken aback by the contents of several of the photos, but they were done so well and creatively the abruptness of the subject gave way to the beauty of the photographs. Indeed, if several of the pieces did not include captions one would take them to be something other than what they are.
